il sonetto

Continuing the research begun in figure, figure, il sonetto seeks to find possible dance translations of Shakespeare’s sonnets. Using as inspiration their melody, unique sonority, their symmetries and repetitions and the rhythm that holds these together and intimately binds them, we discover a density whose sonorous landscapes brim with situations, emotions and characters. Translation thus first and foremost becomes listening to Shakespeare, and then a multiplication of the geometry of his characters’ desires, a dance construction made of a Shakesperean body of language, the reading of its ellipsis, discovering of its art of omission and possible meanings, impossible to stabilize. Divided into four segments bearing Shakespearean names countless, assassination, unreal and frugal, and using language as texture that sometimes touches on and sometimes collides with movement, il sonetto is a carousel ride that sometimes makes us scream and sometimes simply fall.
